Server-Side Tracking is an advanced ClickGuard tracking method designed to improve click and visitor tracking accuracy by bypassing browser-level restrictions and ad blockers.
Unlike standard client-side tracking, which relies on a tracking script running in the user’s browser, Server-Side Tracking allows your website to send click and event data directly to ClickGuard’s servers. This significantly reduces data loss and ensures more reliable protection against fraudulent traffic.
How Server-Side Tracking Works
With Server-Side Tracking enabled:
Click and event data is sent intentionally from your website’s server to ClickGuard’s server
Browsers and ad blockers can no longer interfere with tracking
ClickGuard can track nearly 100% of ad clicks and visitor behavior
Protection accuracy is significantly improved
This setup ensures consistent data collection even in environments where traditional tracking fails.
How to Set Up Server-Side Tracking
Step 1: Enable Server-Side Tracking
Go to Settings —> Tracking Code in your ClickGuard dashboard
Open the Advanced Tracking section (Pro subscription feature only)
Enter your domain
Click on Generate DNS record
Step 2: Configure Your DNS for Server-Side Tracking
Go to your domain's DNS configuration panel.
-
Create a new CNAME record with the settings below.
- If you're using Cloudflare, set Proxy status to "DNS only".
- Save the DNS record. This may take some time to propagate (usually 5-30 minutes).
- Return to this page and click "Verify installation".
- If the installation is successful, continue to the next step: Tracking code installation.
You can also email these instructions to your dev team, directly by clicking on "Send the installation instructions to my developer's email address"

Step 3: Install the Tracking Code
After completing the server-side setup, installation instructions for the tracking code will be displayed.
This step is still required to complete the advanced tracking configuration. If you already installed Tracking Code with GTM feature inside your ClickGuard dashboard, you can skip this step. If the code was installed manually, you need to update it by simply removing the existing one and replacing it with a new one from your ClickGuard account.
Important Notes
Server-Side Tracking does not replace the tracking code — both are required for Advanced Tracking.
Basic tracking remains available if you prefer a simpler setup.
DNS authorization is required to enable server-side communication.
