If you notice a discrepancy between the number of ad clicks reported in ClickGUARD and those shown in Google Ads, don’t worry—this is a common occurrence. The differences typically result from how each platform logs, processes, and filters click data.
Below are the two main scenarios and what they mean:
1. Google Ads Is Showing More Clicks Than ClickGUARD
This usually indicates that some clicks never passed through ClickGUARD’s tracking template, and therefore, ClickGUARD was unable to track or log them.
Why This Happens:
- Clicks may have bypassed ClickGUARD due to a misconfigured or missing tracking template.
- If you’re using a custom tracking template or have set different templates at the campaign, ad group, or ad level, they may override ClickGUARD’s template.
What You Can Do:
- Double-check that ClickGUARD's tracking template is correctly installed at the account level in Google Ads.
- Remove or align any lower-level (campaign/ad group/ad) tracking templates to ensure all clicks route through ClickGUARD.
⚠️ Important: Once a click bypasses the tracking template, it cannot be retroactively tracked by ClickGUARD.
2. Google Ads Is Showing Fewer Clicks Than ClickGUARD
If ClickGUARD reports more clicks than Google Ads, it means ClickGUARD recorded all activity, but Google chose not to report some of it.
Why This Happens:
- Google often retroactively filters out what it deems to be invalid clicks (e.g., bots, double clicks, or suspicious behavior).
- These clicks are either excluded from reports or removed after initial logging.
- ClickGUARD, however, provides full transparency by logging every click that passes through its tracking system—even those later disregarded by Google.
✅ ClickGUARD guarantees 100% visibility into all clicks that route through its tracking, regardless of how Google classifies them later.
Discrepancies in click reporting are often not errors, but the result of differing tracking philosophies:
- Google Ads may hide or remove certain clicks to protect advertisers.
- ClickGUARD shows all clicks for full transparency and control.
