If ClickGUARD is not logging Ad clicks in your Clicks reports, several factors could be causing the issue. Below are the most common reasons and how to resolve them:
1. Google Ads Tracking Template Not Properly Installed
If you choose not to let ClickGUARD automatically install the tracking template in your Google Ads account, you must install it manually. Without the proper template in place, ClickGUARD cannot track clicks. Additionally, if you're using a custom tracking template, ensure it is configured correctly to allow ClickGUARD's click-tracking features to function.
To install it manually:
- Log in to your ClickGUARD account
- Once logged in, navigate to Settings → PPC accounts → Configure (next to the account on which you want to install the tracking template).
- Under the Click Tracking section, make sure the option is set to Manual Setup.
- Under the Tracking Template section, copy the provided code snippet.
- In your Google Ads account, go to Settings at the Account level, and paste this code into the Tracking Template field.
- Back in ClickGUARD, copy the Final URL Suffix value.
- In Google Ads, right below the Tracking Template field, paste the suffix into the Final URL Suffix field.
- Click on Save.
2. Lower-Level URL Tracking Template Is Overriding ClickGUARD's Template
Google Ads allows tracking templates to be set at various levels (account, campaign, ad group, ad). If a tracking template is applied at a campaign, ad group, or ad level, it can override the account-level ClickGUARD tracking template. This prevents clicks from passing through ClickGUARD's proxy and being logged.
Solution:
- Remove tracking templates from lower levels. Check our article about it down below:
How to Remove Tracking Template from Google Ads?
3. Unsupported Campaign Types (e.g., Call-Only Ads)
Call-only ads do not use destination URLs like standard search or display ads. Instead, the user initiates a phone call directly. Since there's no web-based click-through, ClickGUARD cannot log these interactions.
Note: This is a limitation of the ad format itself, not ClickGUARD.
4. Third-Party Applications Modifying the Tracking Template
Some third-party tools or services with access to your Google Ads account may modify or overwrite the tracking template. This can interfere with ClickGUARD's tracking functionality.
Solution:
- Review account access and revoke any third-party services that may be making changes.
- You can audit changes to tracking templates via Google Ads Change History.
5. Google Ads Account Is Suspended or Under Review
If your Google Ads account is suspended or under review, it can prevent any click data from being tracked or processed.
Solution:
- Log in to your Google Ads account and check for suspension or policy violations.
- Follow Google's steps to resolve any account issues.
